Urban Juxtaposition 

Juxtaposition happens when there are two or more elements in a scene that either contrasts with each other, or one element contributes towards the other to create an overall theme.
The main purpose of urban juxtaposition is to capture the viewer in the image and make them wonder why the following is happening as its unusual and not in place.

This image shows urban juxtaposition because in the photo there is a bride and groom in, the bride in pure white and the groom in a clean fresh suit however the background behind them is a dirty old shop on the side of a road with a corrugated roof and the sign for the shop has been spray painted on.
I think this image displays urban juxtaposition wonderfully and it really captures the attention of the viewer. There are also bold colour contrasts and levels of status shown.  

This image has displayed urban juxtaposition suttlely but very well as there are two buildings that are normal detached houses but they are in the middle of an industrial estate,which you can see behind them. this makes a good urban juxtaposition image because the hoses are somewhere you wouldn't normally imagine them to be, this causes the viewer to wonder why someone would want there house there. Even though the image is dull it still has a big impact and creates good viewing.


This image has strong urban juxtaposition as the photo is of a little wooden building, which has an old fashioned corner shop feel to it. This little building is placed in between two sets of modern high rise flats. This makes the viewer wonder whether the little building was there first or whether it was placed there after. The little building is quirky and has good contrasts of dark and light browns, furthermore the textures of the buildings being brick and wood.  



My own images;

I think this image shows urban juxtaposition because this image was taken in the middle of Manchester in Albert Square. This shows urban juxtaposition because you wouldn't expect to see a church tower in the middle of a busy urban environment. 
I think the contrasts are very effective in this image because the buildings are a very dark brown colour whereas the sky is a dark misty grey. 

I think this image shows urban juxtaposition because its in the middle of a busy town center however there has been grass and trees put down creating a green area in a place that would normally be a concrete jungle.
I think this image is far too dark therefore does not capture the true essence of the photo.The contrasts are to dark so the leaves blend into the dark surrounding background.
One thing i do like about the image is that you can see the light pollution in the background from the buildings which makes urban juxtaposition clear.

Here shows some form of urban juxtaposition; its modern architecture but surrounded by greenery. The contrasts in this image are bold and create a pleasing image to the eye.









I think this image shows urban juxtaposition because i took this picture in Auschwitz and in some way i think it develops urban juxtaposition because its modern technology in the middle of a country field.
I really like the contrasts and juxtaposition in this image and i think it creates good imagery.

This image shows urban juxtaposition because there is a teddy dog placed within an urban environment, naturally this is juxtaposed because if you saw something like that lying around you would think that's not right someone must have dropped it.
I think this juxtaposed image was successful as it has clear contrasts and displayed the urban environment in the background.

This image shows urban juxtaposition because it is showing a sun lounger outside a building that is within a urban environment this creates a juxaposed image because normally you would see sun loungers on the beach in the sun rather than outside a huge brick building.  






Urban juxtaposition is displayed here because there is a plant pot fully of plants where you would normally imagine to see a lamppost. This naturally catches the eye of the viewer and creates an urban juxtaposition. 









This image is juxtaposed as my model is wearing shorts whilst walking through the snow. This shows juxtaposition because during this type of weather normally people would wear warm full coverage clothing. This image as strong contrasts throughout such as the red wall against the white snow, the dark roads also compared to the snow. My image could also be considered to have the rule of thirds involved as my model would be on the second vertical line with the first horizontal line going through. 

Here urban juxtaposition is shown where there is the history museum in the background and in front a little merry-go-round. Normally a merry-go-round would be located at places such as a funfair or carnival t  








Urban juxtaposition is shown here as there is a man stood on the pier, he has a stick blowing bubble. This is urban juxtaposition as you can see all the architecture behind the man however what he is doing is considered unusual for the setting.
